Book Review and Giveaway!

Good morning, friends! While we are having difficulties with our internet and preparing for Thanksgiving - I'm popping in from David's office really quickly to share a new book with you!

This is another great read from Bethany House Publishers: A Dangerous Legacy by Elizabeth Camden.

Set in 1903 in New York City, Lucy and Nick, brother and sister, are caught in a 40 year old law suit that they inherited when their father passed away. Their struggle is difficult in working long hours to support themselves and fund the ongoing legal efforts.

Once again, I enjoy the historical setting - learning about morse code, the water systems of NYC at the turn of the century and the daily struggles facing families in those days.

This book had a feel of a Grace Livingston Hill novel - which I loved. What I mean by this is that there were characters who were good and virtuous and those who weren't and the contrast was vivid and clear.

As the story continues, Lucy befriends a telegrapher at a rival news agency and it turns out that they both have information that will help the other. This story was not predictable and I wondered how it would work out! It was very engaging and kept me wondering - there were several twists and turns which made for an enjoyable read.

One thing that I found a bit missing was their faith - it was obvious nearer the end of the book but in the beginning and middle - I found myself wondering why they weren't asking God for help in all of this. But their character did speak for itself and it was obvious that they were trying to do the right things.

I received this book from Bethany House Publishers in exchange for my honest opinion. I enjoyed this book and would recommend it! Great read, and I'm interested to check out other books by this author!

Speaking of authors, I recently had a request to list some of my favorite authors - so here are a few in case you are looking for some new reading material! These are mostly historical Christian fiction authors as that is my favorite genre of books to read:

Tamera Alexander
Lynn Austin
Janette Oke
Julie Klassen
Roseanna M. White
Tracie Peterson
Jennifer  Chiaverini {some modern and some historical, secular author}
Karen Witemeyer
Sarah Ladd
Grace Livingston Hill
Jan Karon {not historical}

Who are some of your favorite authors?

I'm giving my copy of this book to one of you! Please leave a comment by Wednesday evening and I'll announce a winner over the Thanksgiving weekend! Winner must have a US address please.

Have a great week, friends!

I just finished Karon's newest, too. Good read, but I felt the ending was abrupt.

I like Lori Wick and Robin Jones Gunn in addition to a few you already mentioned. Phillip Gulley's Harmony series is hilarious although I can't as heartily recommend his latest novels in the Hope series due to some of the subject matter.

Lauranine Snelling is my favorite author. I love her series Red River of the North, it then continues with the series: Return to Red River, Daughters of Blessing, Home to Blessing and Song of Blessing. In total it's twenty books. It's a series I could read again and again.

Side note on Sarah Ladd. Her oldest daughter, Amelia, was in the same class with Megan from first - fifth grade. I never knew she was a publishd author until a couple of years ago when I saw a review for one of her books on a blog.

Wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving!
