With my focus on wholehearted this summer, I knew I wanted to share this with my children on the first day of school. Rather than read an entire of Scripture which may overwhelm, I chose two verses that I didn't even get to share in my last two posts.
1 Chronicles 28:9-10, "And you, my son Solomon, acknowledge the God of your father, and serve him with wholehearted devotion and with a willing mind, for the Lord searches every heart and understands every motive behind the thoughts. If you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will reject you forever. Consider now, for the Lord has chosen you to build a temple as a sanctuary. Be strong and do the work."
We had a lovely chat about all the big words in these two verses and what wholehearted does and does not mean. We thought of being half-hearted and even no-hearted in doing things {yes, sometimes school work} and how these verses could apply to our school this year.
We were interested to think about David saying these words to his son, Solomon. David had wanted to be the one to build the temple for God but God wanted a man of peace rather than a man of war so he chose Solomon to do this. We noticed that this was a big task and not necessarily always easy. Just as we may feel when we are learning something new and it feels overwhelming or impossible.
Be strong and do the work.
We said that to ourselves a few times!
Then we enjoyed talking about Colossians 1:10, I found a printable of this verse on Pinterest and glued a broken ruler to both sides of it to make a cute hanging.
So much beauty and food for thought to chew on in this one verse! What a great start to our school year! As I said on Instagram,
