Family Night

Here's a short and sweet idea we have been enjoying lately - I've been searching for silly library books! I have had such fun trying to make my littles giggle and laugh over silly stories and it has been really fun to see what we can find next! For ideas, I looked on Amazon book lists, chose authors we had read maybe one of their books and expanded to others and asked friends. If you have a favorite silly book - please share!

I LOVE Shel Silverstein poetry books for kiddos. My best friend was here recently with her 8 and 4 year old...we read poems I marked from "A Light in the Attic" and they were giggling and repeating silly phrases randomly all week. Oh I LOVE books...and I LOVE when kiddos find joy in books too. :)

I love Tacky the Penguin books by Helen Lester. Tacky Goes to Camp and Tackylocks made me laugh out loud too!

One of our favorite silly books has been "The Baby BeeBee Bird" by Diane Redfield Massie, illustrated by Steven Kellogg.

Steven Kellogg has many fun silly sing-along type books too that we liked - "A Hunting We Will Go" & "Give The Dog A Bone" are two, but he has lots of other silly books. "There Once Was A Man Named Michael Finnegan" and "The Lady With The Alligator Purse" by Mary Ann Hoberman are also fun ones.

We especially love the illustrations in all these books. They help make the funny - funnier!

Blessings, Terri

Saying all the kids' names always made my kids and the kids in their classes laugh.

-Amelia Bedelia (there are picture books of when she was a kid that my girls think are really funny)

-Run, Turkey, Run! by Diane Mayr (A Thanksgiving book, but really funny and the kids love saying, "Run Turkey, Run!")

-Curious George

-No Dogs Allowed and Bud and Gabby by Anne Davis

I'd love to hear about the books you find for your kids.

My littles always had a good laugh over The True Story of the Three Little Pigs by Jon Scieszka. It's from the wolf's point of view. Hilarious. I also agree with the suggestions for the Amelia Bedelia books and anything by Shel Silverstein.

We loved Duck on a Bike, Click Clack Moo Cows that Type, and wordless books where we made up the storyline based on the illustrations.
Recently, we have played Balderdash which has provided lots of laughs. This is important for us to remember as we all tend to be serious and intense!

Honey for a Child's Heart has a small section with book recommendations of "stories that make us laugh". We discovered Petunia by Roger Duvoisin and also Harry the Dirty Dog by Gene Zion.
