Days of Beauty: Be Still

Psalm 46:10,
"Be still and know that I am God..."

To know God is to know beauty - to be still is to be able to know more of God and thus to know more of true beauty.

I mean, think about it - how can we see beauty when we are rushing around a mile a minute just focusing on the next ten zillion things we need to get done? To see beauty, we must slow down. Pause and look for it. Be still and seek Him - the truest beauty we can know.

It reminds me of this: there are so many different kinds of beauty. There is beauty we create by making something or caring for our home. There is beauty we observe - the gift of our children, God's Creation, etc... There is inner beauty. There is outer beauty. And, there is holy beauty - oh, to camp out there.

Recently, we woke to a pleasantly cool morning and I fixed a cozy breakfast. We spent half the morning just out on the porch snuggled up under blankets, reading books, listening to our children playing in the yard, laughing together, saying a few words between lines read in our books.

I found myself catching my breath and just drinking it in and not wanting to break the perfect glory that was over our morning. It was just amazing...and rare, and yes - beautiful!

If I'd been rushing around with a huge to-do list, I would've missed all of that. I would not have those images of beauty in my heart, would not have praised and thanked and worshiped God for those precious moments the way I did.

Now, over a week later - we are still talking about what a wonderful day that was ~

Be still
.

Without stillness, we miss so much beauty. Look for the beauty He will show you today in time spent in stillness with Him!

You say it so well. Just Be Still and breath in everything that God has put in your path. Nice job.

Yes! I have learned over the past couple of years that to "be still" is a wonderful thing!

Moments like you describe are mini-vacations from the hubbub of the usual busyness of our lives -- so glad you and David enjoyed this quiet morning together! :) Love you, Mom

Thank you for this lovely post. Be still. Know God. See the beauty. Perfect reminders for our over-busy lives.

This fall weather is perfect for enjoying the outdoors, I think.
And it is interesting to watch our children take their cues from us: When they see us enjoying a book or the Bible, they are more likely to do the same.

What words of wisdom!! Yes, so often, I rush and rush...why??? I love the statement you made about catching your breath and drinking it all in ~ yes, I get this! Recently, also, I've found myself gazing at my husband and observing my children and when I am still for long enough to do so, my cup runneth over with joy! Even more so, when my heart is quiet and I can catch a glimpse of the true beauty of our Lord through His Word, I realize that I would've missed that blessing had I chosen not to be still.

Lovin' these Days of Beauty! Your blog so radiates beauty in all you write about ~ thank you!
