Easter Ideas

We had our annual First Day of Spring party this past Saturday morning! What fun to get to enjoy all the egg hunt, candy, basket, bunny traditions and still have Easter set apart as a holy day!

Now, my thoughts are turning toward Easter and the events leading up to this day. Here are some ways we'll be remembering and celebrating:

Some ideas from last year: here and here. We'll be having a Passover Meal again!

I love this neat Advent to Lent wreath! And, am hoping to make at either this garden or this Hill of Calvary garden!

We'll be waving Palm Branches and shouting, "Hosanna!" And, we'll be washing one another's feet and seeing how it feels to pound nails into wood. Making resurrection biscuits and cinnamon rolls in the shape of a cross.

We will remember His sacrifice, His death and then celebrate together that HE IS RISEN!

What about you? How will you be celebrating Easter this year?

Thank you for this post. I've been looking for ideas of what to do with my children this year and this is a great place to start. Thank you.

I'm thinking we'll watch the Passion Thursday night then keep the lights out as much as possible, on Good Friday. We'll read the scriptures concerning the death, and put emphasis on the excitement on the coming resurrection. Sunday morning will be joy, He's alive!. Off to church then Easter dinner together as a family.

My church is hosting a Passion '10 week with events scheduled/recommended for each day. We will participate in as many as possible.
I too loved that Lent to Easter wreath. I have asked my dad to make something very similar for me.

Great idea - I never thought of a Passover Meal. I do the Resurrection Eggs with the kids. Each day leading up to Easter (12) I hide an egg and then we open to see what's inside, then we read the bible about that. Fun for all of us!!

I'm very, very, very BAD at making plans for Easter! I KNOW I want it to be just as big a celebration as the Christmas season but I'm failing at preparing the family for it. Thankfully there are little prompters in my Google reader this morning to provide some motivation and encouragement in getting my act together!

Thanks for your post. It has me thinking more seriously about what I need to be doing.

What a Great Post Monica, thank you for sharing...very good ideas.

Wish I would have thought many years ago to seperate Sprin and Easter into 2 different Holidays...never to late!

I love the garden idea ~ I saw that on Holy Experience as well (one of my favorite blogs)

I also love the Passover meal -- I am really going to think about this one!

We are doing some traditions:
Ressurection Eggs
Cinnamon Buns in shape of cross
Ressurection Cookies
We have several books we read too.

I am also sticking the jelly bean prayer in their baskets as well.

He is Alive! I love this time of year!

Blessings
Bella

I'll be visiting with my parents and sister who live out of state. And also shouting "Hosanna in the Highest!"

Monica I love the idea of the first day of spring party with egg dying and hunting then. Such a good way to keep the true emphasis where it should be and yet give the kids such traditional fun too. Thanks for sharing. Missed your posts while you were gone. Glad you had a good rest!
Blessings to you from Arizona,
Dorothy

He is risen indeed! We will be attending services on Good Friday and Easter Sunday morning. One of the highlights is our church choir's annual presentation of the Hallelujah Chorus on Easter Sunday morning. Love you, Mom

I just wanted to let you know that you are a wonderful inspiration of ideas of keeping your faith as a central part of your life as a family. I eagerly anticipate doing such meaningful things with my sons as they grow. (They are still under a year...so this year won't be quite the same or meaningful!) But every day I read your writings and I find you a true gift!!! :) God Bless you and hope you enjoy your Easter.

So many great ideas that I can't wait to try. It always seems like Easter sneaks up on us instead of setting it aside as a season to celebrate (like we do for Christmas). Thank you for so many great ways to get started.

Thank you for these suggestions! We are doing many of the same things this year - we made Hosannah palms, we are going to do a Seder (thank you so much for the recipes that you included in the link - it isn't so daunting now!), hot cross buns on Friday, I have tried the Hill of Calvary garden http://mustardseeds.typepad.com/my_weblog/2010/03/tutorial-hill-of-calvary.html
and on Easter, we are going to work our way through the resurrection eggs when we get home from church. You really inspire me to plant the seeds of faith in my children. Thanks!!!
