Vintage Valentine Craft

My friend, Angie, sent me a link to this valentine garland! But, at $29 - I was eager to see if I could come up with a cute and much cheaper alternative! Also, I'm out of space to hang another garland - so made these to hang from my dining room light fixture.

I dug through my scrapbook paper, searched online for vintage valentine images and scrounged some pink ribbon from my stash. Here's what came next:

Cut out hearts from your double sided scrapbook paper:

Align Center
Print out vintage valentines here and here - then tape or glue onto paper and trim to make a heart shape:

Fold hearts in half:

Put two hearts together and sew down the center fold:

Punch a small hole and hang with ribbon! Repeat process to make smaller hearts with or without valentine pictures, as desired.

Have you been doing any Valentine decorating? We just pulled our goodies out yesterday - so fun! Next, I'm hoping to finish something for the center of our dining room table!

I know just the perfect place for a decoration such as this. But I still have never used my sewing machine. Maybe I can come up with an alternative...or finally get the machine out of the box and try it! Love the vintage Valentines. I definately have to use the "I liked you right off the bat" to make something for my son.

Those are adorable! I have done some Valentine's Day decorating, but all of it has been bought. I did paint some hearts to hang in my front window with some white lights. I love how it looks at night. :-)

These are really cute! I have to admit, we don't do much for Valentines Day, as we have 2 birthdays right before hand. I'm usually celebrated out when the 14th rolls around!

I love all holidays! Valentines decorations come out soon after Christmas is taken down at our home. I decorate with a red cake stand my lovely sister bought for me for Christmas from Target, add a special doily from my Grandma Magdalene plus a framed picture of my brother and daughter AND a vintage Lefton girl figurine. I hang a "l-o-v-e" banner, decorate with a couple more Lefton girl figurines that hold red hearts, red vintage hankies make wonderful "doilies" so to speak. A week ago I purchased a small plate stand easel from Hobby Lobby (50% off)and set a plate with printed cupcakes in it. This year I put a small lamp on another glass cake stand and doily and a "happy birthday" left girl next to it, very sweet with the special lighting. Our kitchen table is always dressed with a vintage tablecloth (the "cutter" one's on Ebay are often very cheap and not so bad- spills become a "it's okay, it will wash" saying). Red-rimmed enamelware pie plate holds a salt and pepper antique find as well as the napkin holder.
I often rearrange things to spice things up and teasingly "mess" with my husband... he always says he married me because he thought I was a challenage, just didn't realize that challenage would endure for 15 years now! :)
I really enjoy visiting your blog, Melanie. It is always encouraging, both spiritually and life-out-loud.
Many blessings, Melissa of Churubusco, IN

I love vintage valentines these are really vintage looking too. I have to ask you noticing your Christian flag in the photo #1 where you found them that size and #2 if your littles do the pledge and know it yet? just curious. I made a felt flag for our schooling area and we are trying to memorize the pledge. Smiles, Angelia

Thanks for a fun idea. I made one this weekend while we were snowed in and Katie (my college freshman)took it back to school with her to decorate her dorm room.
