My Favorite Icing

This is the recipe I grew up eating and it is still my favorite! Enjoy!

3 c. powdered sugar
1/4 c. shortening
1 tsp. vanilla
Small drops of milk gradually added

Food coloring as desired

Mix all ingredients to the desire consistency with a hand mixer. This amount will frost one batch of sugar cookies or cupcakes or will fill and frost a two-layer 9 inch round cake (thin layer).

Thank you for the recipe. The one I use and have been using forever has an egg in it and I was always a little nervous about that.

Blessings,
Liisa

I use the same recipe, except I usually use almond flavoring instead. I like that it is thick enough to use with a piping bag too. . .

Yum, I wouldn't even need any cake to go with it;o)

I love buttercream frosting too...although, mine uses butter instead of shortening...i wonder if that makes a different taste?
