Pinky: A Happy Ending

Remember this? I had really given up that she would ever make her way home. After nearly two weeks and a replacement that Emily was accepting more every day - I really did not expect the call I got yesterday morning.

Ring, Ring
"Hello?"
"You called the church office and said your daughter had lost a pink bunny?"
"Yes?!!!!!!!!!"
"Well, we have it here. It was turned in this morning."
"Thank you SOOOOOO much! We'll be right there!"

And, we were - we dropped everything, went over and Emily beamed at the sight of her dear friend. Immediately, she tested the ears - yes, they had that loved on and rubbed feel! Oh, her Pinky has come home.

On the way home, I thought we should have a little Welcome Home Pinky Party. So, for dinner last night, we did. I went all out and had so much fun doing it!

I brought the little chalkboard from Emily's room and used that to write a message.

These little stick puppets kind of evolved. I had digital photo of Pinky, but no color printer and I could not find any solid pink paper in the house. So, I printed these off in black and white and colored over them with a pink colored pencil. I attached to a popsicle stick using double stick tape and tied on a pink ribbon. The sticks are propped up in baby food jars filled 2/3 full with rice.

We have about a zillion of these cute pink roses in bloom right now - so I cut two drinking glasses full to use on our table - they sure are the right color! And, you can't even tell I cut any!

Next, I made a little mobile of sorts to hang from the light fixture. First I printed off more black and white photos of the guest of honor. Then, I printed off the words Welcome Home Pinky! in an outline font and colored them in with a marker. I cut these out and pasted them to the scrapbook paper I had found. Punched holes, tied ribbons and voila!

I got out anything pink I could think of - Valentine dishes, pink napkins, pink plastic bowl, etc... to make it more pinky!

I made pancakes and tinted the batter pink. I put the batter in a washed out squeeze bottle (ketchup) and drew bunny pancakes, here is the photo of my feeble attempt to make pancakes look like pink bunnies! I also made pink (strawberry) smoothies. And, yes, I did even color the milk!

This is one very happy Emily!!!

Rachel just takes it all in!

After dinner, we watched the Velveteen Rabbit! Perfect story for this evening.

A cute story: when Emily got up from her nap yesterday, I had the table all fixed up and she squealed, "Ooooh! Pretty!" Upon closer investigation, she discovered it was all about Pinky and the squealing and delight continued - it was just so precious. Then she figured out it MUST be Pinky's birthday and kept saying, "Pinky Birthday!" Needless to say, she had a great time!

Welcome Home Pinky!

Oh, hooray!!!

We lost the "blankie" last spring but since Charlie was almost 4 (and actually had 2 different special blankets) we made it through okay. I just wish I had it for his baby box. : (

Welcome home Pinky!

That is about the cutest, most sincere thing I've ever heard! I wish I had thought of that when I was young and my cat reappeared after being gone nearly 2 weeks (apparently someone had closed him into their shed and gone out of town). He looked like an angel appearing in the back window and looking very hungry! What a joyous homecoming! E looks overjoyed!

Um, I hate to break it to you, Monica, but you may regret this extravaganza over the course of the next three years when you're trying to wean the little one off Pinky.

FYI.
