2017 Word: Refuge

This word has been on my mind for several months now - I haven't taken time to do more than look up the meaning of the word and begin to think about it. But, I know it has come to mind enough times to get my attention!

The morning after we got home from Colorado, I opened my Bible to Psalm 31 {it was December 31st} and read for my Quiet Time.

Only God could've chosen this Psalm for me to read the day we got home and with this word refuge on my mind!

Psalm 31:1-5,
“In you, O Lord, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame; deliver me in your righteousness. Turn your ear to me, come quickly to my rescue; be my rock of refuge, a strong fortress to save me. Since you are my rock and my fortress, for the sake of your name lead and guide me. Free me from the trap that is set for me, for you are my refuge. Into your hands I commit my spirit; redeem me, O Lord, the God of truth.”

Looking forward to exploring this word more and especially God's Word to see what treasures are waiting there. This has been an intense season for us and I would not say I've been flourishing in the midst of it. And so, I seek this place and person of Refuge eager to learn and rest there.

I think I may end up with more than one word for this year, but I'm starting here! And loving the simple yet powerful truth of this!

Did you choose a word for this year?

Instead of a word this year I have a phrase: Joy in the Journey. It isn't always easy to keep things slow and simple, as much as I would love to do that, so I am going to embrace the entire journey and find joy where I am.

My word for the year is joy. I begin praying around late October every year and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal the word He wants to speak over the next year and ever since some time in November JOY started popping up in so many places that it was undeniable. I am not sure it is a word I would have chosen myself as I am facing a lot of struggles right now, but then again, that kind of makes sense. I love your word. Looking forward to seeing how it plays out in your life.

What a powerful word full of hope and security and promise! I mulled over my Word for a while. The only thing that kept coming to me was the whisper of the word PRAY. So, I have chosen that to be my word of the year. I also feel like I may lean towards another one. As I get more into the year I feel a pull of a certain word (Abundant) and so I may word study this as well.

Blessings my friend.

I just this week decided on the word "grace" for 2017. (Refuge was my word for the year in 2012.) I'll be interested to hear how God uses these words for each of us throughout the year. :)
