Another Hurricane Update

Good morning, friends -

My blog will likely be very quiet this week. Our last week was not quite what we had expected or anticipated! Yet, my family is all still safe and we are confident that God is watching over us even when these things happen.

Our hometown was hit by Hurricane Matthew on Friday night. We did get word that our house is ok other than some ripped screens on the porch and lots of debris everywhere including tree limbs. I have not been back home yet and it will still be several days more before I go home.

Life will not be completely back to normal for a little while yet I expect with getting grocery stores re stocked, finding gas, no electricity, etc.

Let me take this opportunity to say how proud I am of my husband and all the other public servant First Responders who have worked tirelessly on our behalf to keep our community safe. They have sent their families on without them, pulled all nighters, eaten MRE's and dealt with so many other things. I am just so proud of this team of men and women including power line workers, medical personnel and more.

We sang this song at church yesterday and it seemed so appropriate for what our last week has held:

Also, I want to give a big shout out to my sweet friend Jill and her family who have hosted us with joy, warmth and made us feel so at home. Friends like this are a gift and blessing. I am so grateful!

Thank you also to so many of you who prayed for the safety of families in the path of the storm, for our homes, our families, our communities. I also have felt gratitude for the surrounding communities who have welcomed many extra people into their circles the past week. I hope I have the opportunity to serve someone else in this way some day.

Thank you so much for posting. You, and your family, have been on my heart frequently over the last few days. And, I thought I remembered your husband being in the realm of first responders and I have prayed for him specifically. Take the time you need. Your family will stay in our hearts.

Monica, I am so thankful to hear your family is safe and your home has not had extensive damage. We have been through a few hurricanes here in southeast Texas. It really turns things upside down. It has also caused us to see what a blessing our friends and neighbors are and how faithful God is. :)

Oh I hate to hear that your hometown got hit! I know there will be so much work that will have to be done to clean up. So glad that you had a safe place to stay throughout it all and that your husband is safe, definitely a tough job in such a situation as this... MRE's don't sound so great, I know he will be glad to have your home cooked meals again when you get back home. :)

Monica, Thank you so much for sharing your life and showing God's faithfulness through it all. I am thankful to Him that you have been blessed with the love and care of Jill and her family and that David and the others who worked tirelessly and continue to do so are safe. May he continue to sustain you and give you peace.
Blessings to you and your family.

So happy you and your family are safe, also that your home suffered minimal damage-what a blessing! What a wonderful friend Jill is to host your family! I hope to likewise be able to be a blessing to someone like she has.
