Apple Season
We've finished off all of our applesauce for the season - and in the spirit of kicking off Fall and all things apple season - I thought it would be fun to share some favorite apple ideas:
I have a Pinterest board just for apples! Specific things from this board I want to try this year are:
- Apple Cider Cupcakes with Brown Sugar Cinnamon Buttercream
- Apple Cinnamon Pancakes
- pancake picnic?!

- Applesauce: my method has evolved over the years. I currently just add 1 c. water to a large pot {see photo!} and fill with quartered apples {I prefer a mix} - when those are soft, we run them through a food mill and voila - applesauce!

I make the fried apples from crackerbarrel. They are so good!
Love your Pinterest Apple Board and pinned a few things. I would like to try those apple cupcakes too. We have several apple trees and a cider press, so I'm always looking for new apple ideas. Besides the cider, I make applesauce and canned apple pie filling. Here is my apple board if you are interested:

We make our applesauce just like you do. I was told by a friend that you can wash, quarter, and core the apples and run through a Vitamix. You would need to head the sauce if you were going to can it. It's nice to know about different ways to make it.
We love applesauce just as is, as a side along with supper, but we also use applesauce as an egg substitute in baked goods because we have some food allergies.
We also like to make what we call "scalloped apple casserole". (Wedge/core/peel about an apple per person. Coat with a little lemon juice and water. Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar, and a bit of flour with a dash of salt. Stir it up to coat evenly. Bake @350 covered for 20 minutes, then uncovered for 20. (That's the gist of it, but you can probably find a "real" recipe on line, if you like to be more precise.)

My husband just recently mentioned to me that he really likes applesauce (missed that in 27 years of marriage some how! Lol). So when I go to get apples next week, I may try to make some. I usually put up pies in the freezer. I might have to borrow your apple crew for some assistance!
