Apple Picking: A Kickoff to Fall!

A favorite activity we've come to love at the end of August is a trip to the apple orchard! It is the very earliest of the picking season, yet our favorite apples are ready first so it is perfect!

We enjoy leaving the heavily hot and humid days for a cooler mountain morning and the heady scent of ripening fruit weighing down trees and sprinkling the ground underneath.

It was a treat to miss the hurricane that swirled through our area and stay with friends an extra day enjoying the scenery, friendship and Fallish feel of the air.

We brought home about 80 pounds of apples which have now been sauced and jarred for the months ahead - what a fun tradition this has become! And, I was so pleased the my kitchen helpers did almost all of it themselves except for the canning! What a delight to see my investments of time reaping growth and benefit in their lives.

Gala, McIntosh and Mutsu made their way home with us and we love the delicious smell of apples bubbling on the stove and tasting sauce still warm!

Ohh, this makes me a big jealous! ;) I grew up in New England and we went apple-picking every year. We live in Southwest Florida now, so no such fall delights for us. I'm taking a weekend trip to Connecticut with my daughter in a few weeks, but we can't bring pounds of apples home with us on the plane. We might have to go apple-picking and drop off the apples with various family members!

Oh I just can't stand seeing all those apples on the ground! Lol!
We are going to Amicola Falls next week for Apple & Pumpkin picking. The temps are suppose to go down here in the South by next week so I feel Fall sneaking around the corner.
Sounds like y'all had a very productive trip. I hope you share more pictures.

This is on my Bucket List. Living in South Alabama, there isn't many apples growing here. You inspire me. I can't wait to get and read your book. I am saving for it :)
