Days of Beauty: Why Beauty?

Beauty.

Why is it so important to me? Why is it that it sits so deeply in my heart?

First of all, because He created beauty. He created a beautiful world for our enjoyment and to bring glory to Himself.

Oh, that by creating beauty in my own life, heart and home - I might glorify Him! And, you know - I believe that it does glorify Him. When we use our gifts, talents, creativity all created and given by Him - and we desire to please and glorify Him it will do these things: glorify Him, please Him, shine His light to others around us and bring a sweetness and joy to the lives of those around us.

Beauty enhances our lives. It is not a basic life necessity (though arguable for me and likely some of you as well) and it is certainly not an end all.

But, have you thought of the way beauty enhances our lives and the lives of those around us? Oh, when we're having hard seasons - beauty can bring a long-awaited smile, or lighten a load for a bit or give the tiniest seed of hope which may take long hours to bloom.

Beauty does not have to be seen by the eye. It can be a handwritten note, a well spoken word, a prayer said from a genuine heart. Or, yes - it can be a flower cut from the garden, a simply tied bow or a sweetly chosen gift for a friend.

Beauty refreshes me. It restores, inspires, it has a peaceful feeling for me.

What does beauty do for you?

"A word aptly spoken
is like apples of gold in settings of silver."
~ Proverbs 25:11 ~
