Quiet

I'm reminded over and over again of a sweet and simple domestic life in days gone by.

1 Thessalonians 4:11a, "Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life."

Quiet

Just say that word to yourself and feel yourself relax and your heart begin to quiet.

Could that mean some of the same ideas as small? Yes - it resonates with me as a similar feel and idea.

Visiting in Colorado - I was struck with the pace - so many are in a hurry, walking and driving and talking faster than me. And, it unsettles me - to be in the faster pace. And, then driving up to the mountains to visit a friend and her home feeling quieter, simpler, slower.

I'm in a nearly completely quiet room at Glen Eyrie right now (when writing this) - I can hear the tick of the clock and the gentle drip of rain.

How would it change my life if quietness of heart was a priority?

Even just the word: quiet falls and rests gently on my soul. It finds a welcome there and feels so right there.

Isaiah 30:15 - quietness and trust will be my strength
1 Kings 19:11-13 - a gentle whisper
Psalm 46:10 - be still

Quietness does not fight or push back.

Quietness is a blessing.

Quiet is restoring.

Quiet is spiritually necessary.

A quiet heart and spirit feels more at peace, more orderly, not chaotic.

Quietness brings strength.

When we are quiet, we can hear better.

Quietness shows humility, restraint and a teachable-ness.

Quietness blesses me, my home, my life - noise and chaos take away.

You know what I mean by quiet, right? It doesn't mean I expect my children to be quiet all the time - it is a state of heart. A quiet place spiritually that longs for Him and to be filled with Him.

Quietly finishing this week of reflecting - more to come in the days ahead as I am learning and quieting my heart. Won't you quiet your heart this moment and join me?

Thanks for the posts this week. I loved today's especially. I want my home to feel like your friend's-would you ever do a post on what you saw or what she did to make her home feel quieter & slower? I just wonder what it is that makes that happen. I try and some days I think I do a really good job -others not as much.

Thanks again. Have great weekend!

I feel the same way when I go to my mom's. She lives in the mountains and the quiet I "feel" (even in my heart) is completely different there. I'm still trying to figure out how to bring that into my real life.

I really understand your desire to have a quiet heart, spirit. God's been teaching me something similar when I've been studying the passage from 1 Peter 3:3-4. I wrote a post about it because I feel it's so important for Christian women. I'm really enjoying your series!

Wow Monica... that is the third time this week that the Lord has showed me that verse!! I wanted to glean more so I read over commentaries, but just wasn't pulling out as much as I wanted on that verse. Your blog post was wonderful and JUST what I was looking for. Thanks for sharing how God ministered to your heart through that verse.

Also, I love the new photo of you on your blog!!! It's absolutely a darling picture of you. Thank you for all of your biblical encouragement!!!

Wonderful! With a daycare in my home Monday - Friday, it is a treat if I ever have quiet here!
:-) But I do know what you're saying about it being more about our hearts and spirits. I also have been seeking that quietness and asking God to direct me to a quieter pace of life. Thanks for this post!
