Bringing Spring Inside

Valentine decorations needed to be taken down last week and I entered my yearly puzzlement of how to decorate for Spring without using plastic eggs and fake looking rabbits. Don't get me wrong, there are tasteful bunnies and eggs out there - but the majority of what we see this time of year is either just tacky or expensive!

I shopped all around my house and came up with a display for the top of my china cabinet (looks similar to this), one in my entry way something for my table. The only thing I bought was one candle for my table. Basically, I searched for things of similar colors.

I'm still on the lookout for some fun spring ideas that I could make or find inexpensively, but for now - I'm enjoying the splash of spring colors in my home! How do you decorate for Spring?

Oooooooh, love spring, can't wait Monica! I think I will plant some rye grass this year, in little planters and things, and lay in some hand blown eggs, in some sweet little baskets, new for me, but that is my plan. Happy spring friend!

I bought a yard of pretty, flowery fabric a few months ago and when I changed my table decor last week, I layered a sage green tablecloth with my pretty, flowery fabric as a diagonal table runner (if that makes any sense). I also used some pretty clear glass dishes to put some of my houseplants on. I was tired of dishes and decor with visual weight, so I used my clear glass to bring lightness to my table.

I have always wanted to decorate for the seasons, but never acquired the little accessories to sprinkle around.
Love your candles with the cylinders and the beans in them. Very springy. You could also maybe put lemons in the cylinders or artichokes. All faux of course. LOL, if I used real, I would forget abou them being in there and that wouldn't look pretty.

Hi Monica! I agree with you on the plastic egg decor...not my thing either! But, I take those little plastic eggs and hot glue jute twine onto them, just keep going around and around until they are covered up. They are super cute and super cheap to make!

Hi Monica, I put some floral branches in a vase and decorated them with some paper crafted ornaments that I made. You can see a picture of them on my blog post here. http://basketmasterweavings.blogspot.com/2010/02/paper-crafting-easter-tree-ornaments.html

The Easter ornaments were easy and free and I think they look quite pretty.

Enjoy your day!

Your china cabinet looks great! I also love what you did with your candles.

I agree about the plastic stuff. I also have been searching my house for spring colored things - I have found candles, a green cake plate, some hydrangas (fake). I try to use pastels since that's what I like & have and think it looks 'spring-y'. I use a little bit of Easter stuff since my daughter likes the bunnies and eggs.

Looks great, Monica. I know what you mean about the plastic eggs. I really like the twigs that you brought in. I decorate very simple for spring. I will be pulling my stuff together very soon. I hope!

This spring post is just what I need. The valentines really need to come down. My dad cut a ton of forsythia for me to bring inside and force, so that is going to be my main spring decoration. I always love it when people plant trays of grass, too. I don't have any other great inspiration, though I do have two large Beatrix Potter pictures and some really intresting wooden geese on my Piano. They've been there for a while, and the season finally caught up, I guess.

I am so about to decorate for Spring now, too. This year, on my mantle, I plan on using different candlesticks, frames, a nest, and maybe a few birds. I want to make a garland, like Tator Tots and Jello, out of coffee filters, doilies, muffin liners, sheet music, etc. to hang below the mantle. Not sure what else yet. Oh, last year I started to wrap plastic eggs with strips of fabric to nestle in a bowl or something.
