Thrifty Cake Topper

As my friend, Debbie, was preparing for her wedding - she was having trouble finding a cake topper that she liked and that was not too expensive. She asked me for ideas and I headed here for some inspiration. I saw a beautiful initial topper made out of some fancy sugar and such. But, still loved the idea of the initial!

Not long after, we were in Michael's and found these pearl letters in their dollar bins! Love that - it turned out pretty, don't you think? Thrifty cake topper: $3 at Michael's!

Monica,

Great minds must think alike! My husband and I used these when we got married. We did a different arrangement, but they were the same pearl ornaments turned wedding cake decoration. We've kept them and reattached the ribbon so they now hang on our tree at Christmas. It is a great little reminder of a very special day!

Beautiful!

My friend had a big 'W' on their wedding cake for the initial of their last name. It was a fancy wooden 'W' and it was painted dark brown and matched the dark chocolate accents on the cake. Really pretty.

Love the pearls!

I love the basket weave that is done in frosting like that. My wedding cake was like that too. I didn't want the traditional cake topper either;instead, i went with flowers. Love the initials idea and you can't beat it for that price either.

I *love* Michael's dollar aisle. I've seen those cute little letters before, but could never think what to do with them. The cake looks great!

We used the bride and groom cake topper that was on my parents' and grandparents' wedding cakes. However, after 50+ years, it was looking pretty worn. My highschool art teacher re-painted it and it was so pretty and charming. I love seeing what things people use to top wedding cakes. So many great ideas.

That's really pretty! We did some monograms for our wedding and the cake had our initials written in frosting on the top.
