Glimpses of Grammie's

I had fun going around my Mom's house and capturing a few pictures of things I have grown up seeing or things that remind me of her - or just things I like!

Her signature fragrance ~ this scent will forever remind me of my Mom:

I was with my Mom when she found this sled and I love seeing it on her porch this time of year!

I remember watching this shelf fill up as I've grown up - and I've brought my mom some of these spoons from travels!
My mom made this cross stitch of the Virtuous Woman scripture. I love each little picture that goes with each phrase of the passage.
Can you tell where I got a love of simple pleasures?
A pretty jar of thread ~ with her corsage from my wedding at the base:
A neat old jar filled with vintage sewing supplies~
I can't wait to get home and repurpose my Scrabble game into one of these little message boards! My mom stores the tiles in a cute French jelly jar:

... and keeps a tray on her window sill to leave messages or words!

Here is one I did to greet them Friday when they got home from work ~ later in the weekend, my Dad changed it to "legacy".

I had to smile when I saw the bottle of perfume. Although that is not my mom's fragrance I always think of her when I smell her fragrance or see the bottle. Funny how the little things about home are the most comforting.

LOVE The scrabble idea and the thread in the jar idea. by the way I purchased that dress pattern you posted the other day. of course my printer ran out of one of it's inks so I only go half printed off. I am anxiously awaiting to get the ink in the mail so I can get started. praying that you are safe and sound.

What lovely reminders of your mother - my mom wears Estee Lauder "Beautiful", and I love smelling that smell on my boys when they've visited with her.

And, I love the spoon shelf!

Oh what wonderful memories!!

I see where you get your love of vintage things. I too like old things that I can re-purpose or use in my home.

Do you have any idea where I could locate that cross-stitch?

Thanks for sharing,
Kim

I will be digging out my Scrabble tiles TODAY! I love words in our home.
Your mom must be so touched by the items that speak to you from her house. Taking pics makes us so much more mindful of our surroundings, I think.
Hope you had a safe, quiet trip back home.

I absolutely love the cute little jar with the scrabble letters in it! As a homeschool Mom, I'm always looking for ways to saturate our home environment with learning experiences. What an easy and fun way to practice spelling and vocabulary. LOVE IT!

Monica, You can't imagine my shock when I saw that cross stitch sampler. I made that exact sampler for my grandmother years ago. It hangs right beside her chair in her living room.
It took me a looonnnggg time to finish it! Probably because I procrastinated for a while!!
I just think that is so neat. Here we are friends IRL, and even make the same craft!! Funny!!
Praying for a safe trip, and can't wait to see you and the kids! Dawn

Scrabble letters are so much fun. I have a set with magnets on the back that I use on my frdige to write special notes. We also pick a center theme word and build words out of it that stay with the theme!!

Very sweet! I love things that remind me of special people. I recently got a fruit basket that my great grandmother made in ceramics. Very special!

Just wanted to let you know how much I've enjoyed the last 2 days posts! LOVE the Scrabble idea. My three yr. old and I had a fun morning practicing alphabet skills and writing messages for Daddy to find when he gets home.

Reminds me of one of the items your sister gave me in the "Bloom" swap last year....

An adorable little tablet with the phrase, "It's the small things that make us blossom"...on the front.

Neat post! I seem to be appreciating the simpler things more each day and thanking God for them. :-)

Thanks for sharing!

That's a great idea with the Scrabble pieces. I've been wondering to do with my old game (because I really hate playing it) and now I've got inspiration.

That jar of vintage sewing notions is divine!

Dear Monica,
How very wise of you to capture the everyday memories and moments of life. I love your sensitivity to the essence of things. I wish I had captured life in such thoughtful ways.
I urge all the younger women to take time to open their eyes and hearts.

I love the scrabble idea too...my mom sent me that exact same jelly jar and I've been trying to decide what to do with it. I think I'll keep an eye open for a thrifted scrabble game :o)

I have that same cross stitch! When touring with a college choir we stayed in a home with that cross stitch on the wall. The hostess told me where she had bought the pattern and I wrote it all down. She was sweet enough to actually send me a copy of the pattern in the mail. I made it and now it hangs in my home. I was so surprised to see it on your blog!

We have that same cross-stitch. I actually found it at a yard sale, so I don't have a connection to the maker, but I still really like it.
