Sake House Style Teriyaki Chicken

David and I have a favorite date spot, I've mentioned it before - but the food is ah-mazing. However, they took our favorite option off the menu and are really mostly sushi now which we are not fans of. We can sometimes find someone there who remembers and they will fix this delish food for us again, but it is hit or miss.

I've recently been getting the hang of my grill pan and knew that teriyaki chicken needed to be attempted. This was my first attempt and it was actually really close to the restaurant but the sauce was a bit too tangy so I will cut down the vinegar next time. All my kiddos loved it and we all declared it a success!

I combined several recipes - so I'm posting this here so I can actually remember what I did for next time!

Two days before:
Place 3 chicken breasts in a ziploc or glass baking dish with a lid
Combine and pour over chicken:
1/4 c. soy sauce
3 Tbsp. vegetable oil
2 Tbsp. brown sugar
1/2 tsp. ground ginger
1/4 tsp. pepper
2 tsp. fresh minced garlic {I use jarred}
* I put my chicken in frozen and let it thaw and marinate for two nights.

Fried Rice:
Cook 2 c. rice in the microwave {total of four cups cooked rice}
In skillet, heat 1-2 Tbsp. olive oil {calls for sesame, but I wanted to use what I had}
Minced onion {I use dried so used 2 Tbsp.}
1 heaping tsp. minced garlic
Heat oil, onion and garlic - add rice and 1/4 c. soy sauce; heat until ready to serve

The original recipe for rice calls for eggs and veggies and we like it that way too - but we also like it just like this.

Brown Garlic Sauce {I will reduce the rice vinegar next time to maybe 1/4 cup or less}

Steamed Broccoli

Chicken:
Heat grill pan on medium-high heat. Get it really hot! Then put your chicken on and cook on both sides until cooked through. Took less than 10 minutes for mine. Slice into strips and serve.

Sauteed Onions:
We love nice caramelized onions with our meal - just put one whole sliced sweet onion and 2 Tbsp. butter in a skillet and let them work their magic. These take almost as long as the rice so start them early.

It uses a lot of pans to make this, but really it came together in about 30 minutes. Yum!
