Blissful Home Tour: Homespun

Hello Friends! What a fun treat to put together this post to share with you today! Thanks so much, for the warm welcome and invite Danielle!

I am a wife and mama of three - we are a homeschooling family so you will see how we fit that into our home. I love to create and then bring beauty into our home with those creations. I've enjoyed blogging at The Homespun Heart for nine years about the simple pleasures of faith, family and home.

Welcome! Please step onto our porch and come in! We live in the South, so rocking chairs on the porch are just right for an inviting welcome. We also love an occasional evening sit on the porch with a small lantern lit. An old cookie sheet painted with chalkboard paint and hung by the door allows for quick messages to be personalized.

Step into our entry way - the cabinet is definitely the focal point but serves many purposes! We keep games, keys, sunglasses, etc. close and handy. Across the top, I've kept it simple with a homemade memo board {cover a canvas with fabric!} and thrifted canning jar lamp with a fabric shade plus a few collected shells. To create this lamp shade, simply remove the original fabric keeping the metal frame. Weave strips of fabric through until it is finished! Usually I add a few extras to this space each season just to personalize it for Christmas, Fall or Spring.

I love our Living Room! To me, it is cozy and comfy! It has taken me a while to get this room settled as it is long and has a walkway in the middle! But after changing nearly everything - it is finally feeling settled. In this space I've incorporated a lot of handmade touches. I slipcovered our couches with drop cloths from Lowe's, refinished a coffee table my girlfriend was getting rid of and made garage sale curtains! I made all the pillows except the dotted ones. The dotted ones were on a 90% off clearance and the others I made including the patchwork pillows!

The chalkboard is an old table top and I painted the artwork hanging on it and made the sheet music wreath! I've had this floor lamp for probably two decades and several years ago just painted the brassy finish with a $1 can of black spray paint - instantly updated!

My sweet friend made this awesome wall vinyl art from a pin I had pinned on Pinterest! I *love* it! This shelf has also been a favorite find on half-off sale at Hobby Lobby! I filled it with things I already had around the house.

Now you can see our school area! I found this table on a local garage sale site {like Craigslist} and the main splurge in this room is the cabinet we use to keep all of our school stuff in. I absolutely love it and it has served us beautifully! Hoop art, a garage sale globe and fabric garland dress everything up for hardly any investment.

Next, let's step into the Dining Room! I bought this table used before I was married and refinished every chair and the table too! It has served us well :) A couple of my favorite things in the Dining Room are a chalkboard I made and small shelves displaying vintage clocks set to the times our children were born! I also traced around their young hands and stitched around the lines for a sweet simple keepsake.

Before we step into the Kitchen, let's go outside for a minute onto our screened porch! We added this on several years ago and because of the mild winters we have in the South we can use this nearly year round. We don't use it a ton in the summer because it is just too hot!

I bought this table and chairs at a thrift store and painted them, a piece of oil cloth stapled around the top provides an easy clean surface that also adds cute value! The two side chairs that are different were my great grandmothers and I love using them - I painted them and recovered the seats with leftover oil cloth!

We wanted some kind of curtains on the porch to keep the pollen down during the Spring, I made these simple curtains from canvas drop cloths. And, my handy Dad helped me put up the cable to hang them. An old camping cot makes a great outdoor couch!

Whew - it's hot out there! Let's scoot back inside where it is cool! Moving now to the Kitchen - you can see a before and after here. I painted the cabinets with chalk paint and removed the doors off one set of cabinets. I have just loved it! Paint is so wonderful - it makes such an impact for relatively little cost and time. The paper hanging behind my dishes in the open cabinets is simple inexpensive sheets of scrapbook paper! You can make your own zinc look alike letters using craft store cardboard letters.

Next stop, the Master Bed and Bath ~ this furniture was built by one of my ancestors and my sweet Grandma gave it to us as a wedding gift! The little chalkboard hanging off our headboard is a silver tray from the Dollar Tree painted with chalkboard paint and a piece of ribbon hot glued to the back. And, I made the big wooden sign hanging over our bed with a $2 piece of scrap wood from the Habitat Store and a sharpie marker. You can make a quick one day throw quilt like the one on the end of my bed just using big scraps on hand.

My house tour photos of our Master Bath were not great, so I'll send you to this post and this one to see my recent projects there!

You can also see our kids rooms here.

Thanks for visiting! Hope you enjoyed the tour!
