Hoop Art

I  mentioned in a post last week that I had struggled with this one wall in my living room. Our living room is long and therefore a little tricky to arrange and this wall next to the back door has always seemed lost. But, finding this great cabinet has made all the difference and I love it there. Next, I knew I wanted something next to it to tie in that blank wall with the cabinet and make it look more at home.

The family photo canvas was a great beginning and then I wanted to make some hoop art to go with the canvas. I chose these words because they are meaningful to me and beautiful to me and what we want for our family:

Wisdom
Knowledge
Understanding
Truth
Goodness
Beauty

These are words I frequently hear together in CC {Classical Conversations} circles, and I find them inspiring and beautiful and want to incorporate them into our home.

You may remember that I had already made the wisdom hoop around our first day of school celebration. So I grabbed one hoop at a time and just kind of went with whatever inspiration struck for that one.

I love how they are all different yet all tie together with common themes. And, while I did not make these for a gift - any hoop art would make a lovely and economical gift!

Cost: Since I cannot get wooden embroidery hoops locally {closest store thirty minutes each way} I bought the wooden embroidery hoops when I was at Hobby Lobby recently. The two larger ones were $1.29 each and the three smaller ones were 0.99 each for a total of $5.55. All other fabric, lace, thread and embellishments were things I have had on hand or were leftover from another project.

The cabinet is a great find--storage with character. You can never have enough of that, especially with all of your homeschool supplies.
Your hoops are the perfect touch to your family canvas. The colors in the fabric choices highlight the different colors in your family's clothing. Pop!
I have MANY hoops filled with fabric as a collage. I've wanted to add some texture to some of them. I love the doilies and lace. Over the weekend, I made a garland on jute webbing that says "I love u" stitched onto red felt hearts. I added it to my largest (antique!) hoop. It was my first time to stitch letters. I know it will get easier with practice, but I was amazed at you stitching cursive writing. Did you use embroidery floss? And, did you backstitch or just make close stitches?

So cute! I've done some of these but didn't embroider on them, love that idea!

Absolutely beautiful. Love that this surrounds your sweet family in the tangible and in the unseen. What a testimony to those living inside your home and to the guests who enter!

Thanks for sharing. Hope you are feeling better!
