Girls Morning Out!
Last year around Christmas, I really knew that I wanted to do American Girl dolls for our girls for Christmas this year. I remember drooling over the catalog as a girl and similar to doing Disney World with our kids - it is just one of those things I felt strongly about doing with and for them.
I had a few freelance writing jobs this year and was able to stash away one of my checks to be able to do this for Christmas! The anticipation was fun for me and surprising them was great! Throughout this year, the girls have been more exposed to these dolls through their friends and I was so excited with my little hidden surprise for them.
I had decided though, to let them go and pick out their own doll instead of trying to choose and perhaps pick the wrong one and have hurt feelings on one side or the other ~ so I made up a little certificate with four dolls on it and the day after Christmas, we went together to pick out their dolls. My Mom gave them certificates to pick out an outfit as well!
Girly cousins together on their big adventure:
And, four generations enjoying the outing together:

Good pick, Emily! I always wanted Molly :)
Oh that store is a dreamland! When we went to the location in NYC, Hanna and I exclaimed over every detail, even the bathroom. I love how the girls' choices share their love for hats and reading.
I am intrigued by your mention of freelance writing jobs. I love to write, and need to do something that is purposeful in the coming year. When you have a chance, can you share a bit about how you got started with this venture? Thank you.
By the way, do you need any volumes from the Anne series?
how cute! I love that one picked out Kit! she's my favorite!!
How fun! My little one really wants an American Girl Doll and to go to the store. The store is about 7hrs away so we are thinking we may go for her birthday in July.
Please give us an update in a few month of how the girls like their dolls. My girls are similar in age and I wondered if they were ready for American Girl dolls. I was afraid that I would be nervous about them playing with an expensive doll or even worse that they wouldn't even play with the doll. Is it easy to brush their hair? The dolls I get the girls from the store have horrible hair. Looks like a lot of fun to go to the store.
The pink kitty earmuffs slay me.....Love Them!!
What fun! I LOVE Molly too! And she is one we don't have. My little Catherine received Caroline this year.
You can't lose $4 on the dolls! My Dd who is now 25 had 2 and when she was in high school she elected to sell them (with the clothes I made and some accessories LOL) and ended up getting several hundred dollars! I tried to talk her into saving them for her future daughter(s) but it was a lost cause. She did keep her MyTwinn doll that really did resemble her! I think they are making those again- hers was a very nice doll and comparable to American Girl but that was 17 years ago.
My girls have an AG doll and love them! Santa brought them knock off outfits from Michaels and AC Moore using coupons and also a no sew fleece sleeping bag and felt poncho made out of a piece of tie dye felt.
How precious
That was a nice gift and well planned for. The girls all look so happy with their dolls.
We love AG in this house!!! Somehow Lilly has quite a few, but I've only bought one. The quality is quite different from the Target and ToysRUs versions, for sure! For Amy, the hair, at least on non AG dolls, can be fixed with fabric softener. We did that on a thrifted doll who had crazy hair and it looked as good as new! I find that the AG girls have nicer hair and it doesn't get as nappy.
Love that you got to do that with your girls-how special!
Elise
