Operation Homemade Shoebox: Pillowcase Dress

I have this post and one more on creating a handmade shoebox. This has been fun, and truly it is much cheaper than even shopping at the dollar store for things to fill the boxes. Yes, it takes time - but this is the kind of box I would want my child to receive!

The pattern and idea for this project came from the book: Craft Hope. Pillowcases were $1 at my local Goodwill and everything else I had on hand.

I am so excited to pack our boxes and to know that some little girls are going to receive new dresses! Hope they are a blessing!

How special those gifts will be to those little girls. They will last a long time, and will even be able to be passed down when outgrown. Thanks for posting your ideas! :)

What a great idea - you are so caring! I love pillowcase dresses and have actually ordered several from online before - maybe I will try to make some. Yours are so cute.

I love this! I'm doing an older girl this year and have my 'twirly' skirt finished with it's matching headband from the Heather Bailey pattern. I found a great shirt on sale to go with it and filled in with acceptable toiletries and stationary products from my gift closet. I love this project! Your posts prompted me not to be last minute - thanks!

And it seems that most of the shoeboxes get delivered to countries with hot climates. So those breezy dresses will be most appreciated.

Those are lovely. I think I'll let Brenna pick the colors to go with one of the (many) pillowcases I have saved to make her dresses & nighties. I bet she will love tucking one into our OCC box.

Monica - This is a great idea, especially since they are adjustable. I have the pattern for making this type without the pillowcase, I may do this as well for our girl boxes. You rock!

I love these ideas you've put together Monica! I did one of these dresses for my DD last summer. They are so easy and so cute! I'm hoping to be able to use your homemade shoebox idea for our Angel Tree kids this year.

Lovely dresses. You inspired me when you first posted about the boxes to make as much of ours this year as I could. Here is what I put in our boxes.

We have packed shoeboxes for years and I love this idea! This is something that my 15 year old can definitely do. And I am thinking about what a great project for the young ladies in my church. I ma going to have to look up that pattern. It may be too late to start this year, but definitely for next year!
I have been a longtime reader and I just wanted to say how much I love your precious heart...a heart for God, children and your husband!
