We just returned this evening from a short road trip and have a loooong road trip coming up later this month! And, I've had a request to post ideas for road trips. I have begun a mental list - but would love to solicit your help. If you have a great car idea for on the road, please e-mail it to me at thehomespunheart (at) hotmail (dot) com. I'll link you up if you send me a link to your blog too! Thanks in advance!!

We have printed small thumbnail-sized pictures of family members' faces on sticker paper, then brought along magazines to stick them onto. You can get really zany using all the pictures in a magazine; for instance, making Papa swim in a fishbowl or having Mama's face on an animal's body. It was a fun activity to do with the cousins once we arrived, too!
My number & map loving son absolutely loves to have a list of all the towns we'll be passing by on our trips. He likes to see how far we have left!
Take empty bottles and put random trinket toys in it and then fill it with rice, beans, etc. Then they shake the bottle to find the hidden treasures. Helps to make a master list for yourself because you will forget what all you put in it. Then you can say - who can find the penny first. It was a great item for long trips!
Family Fun magazine usually have great travel ideas in their summer issues. I think stickers and magnetic items (on a cookie sheet) are great treats in the car. We also rent DVDs from the library and use our player on trips. That is a rare treat. We often bring a ball for my son who needs some physical activity at the rest stops. A beach ball deflates to not take up any room.
