We have heard many friends share about finding wild blackberries in their yards and to our surprise, we found a few too! They were quickly washed and popped into Rachel's fruit-loving mouth!
Have you ever found something growing by surprise in your yard?
Weeds?!?! Oh, I guess those don't count. :) We did find that some little brown birds made a nest in a chalk basket we left on the back patio table. I took photos of the eggs, and ever so often we would see the little birdies. Their momma would also come frequently with a worm or some other such vittle. Elise
yes! a robin moth cocoon. we checked on it every day till it sprang out. it was well worth the wait!! i go into more detail here: http://maybemontessori.blogspot.com/2009/05/hyalophora-cecropia.html
my son still talks about it and we're hoping to blessed with another sighting some day.
Last spring my dh found a SINGLE morel mushroom next to the trashcan in our backyard. In the 13 yrs we've lived here that was the only one that was ever found.
I have found anything yet. I live in an apartment complex. However, I remember one time I as out driving with my father and I saw people picking stuff from these bushes on the side of the road. I asked him what they were doing. It turns out wild raspberries grow in our area. The people were just picking them and eating them :) :) ) Yummy...I love raspberries.
At our last house we found morels in our backyard. The house before that had tiny wild strawberries sprouting here and there. One of my good friends has a yard full of morels in the springtime. This year we found at least 30.
We have found pink lady slipper orchids on our property, as well as trailing arbutus, also called mayflower and is the flower of our province of Nova Scotia. When we first bought this house and had a walk around the property, we found that the previous owners were growing something they should not have been, and had left a few pots in random spots in the forest where no one would see them. That was a bit scary!
MMMMmmmmmmmmmm! Yum! Blackberries are one of my favorite foods. What a fun treat!
I also enjoyed your sweet morning pics yesterday. That reminds me to do more reading on the lawn, and just to make the simple things a little more special sometimes. Thank you!
Yum! We've had lots of pansies popping through the rocks on our xeriscape this year and last and one year we had a bumper crop of mini pumpkins that we had not planted.
when we built our last home we were surprised in the spring by LOADS of wild black raspberries growing EVERYWHERE in the woods. Not surprised by the amount of poison ivy growing in there either...

My mom has raspberries growing alongside of her shed. They are purely for grandchildren grabbing a handful as they walk past!
