Impromptu Inspiration
My friend Heather brought me a pair of cute curtains yesterday. Made by Shabby Chic I knew the fabric would make something wonderful!
Oh, the possibilities of a piece of fabric! How do you ever decide what to make from one piece?! I went through several ideas quickly before deciding to go with the pillowcase dress idea. But, as I was making them - I was thinking summery nightgowns were even better! The little ruffle on the bottom was part of the curtain - perfect!
Paired with a spring colored t shirt these could also be great spring/summer play dresses!
One curtain made two for her girls (already done) and the other curtain will make one for each of my girls! I think it's funny that she brought me the curtains around 4pm and by 7 - I had two nighties done, folded a load of laundry and cooked dinner! These were very easy!

Wonderful, girly fabric. What a great friend to think of you!
What a creative idea.
If you have a fabric that's on the flimsy side you can always line the dress. I line most of my dresses and skirts so that we don't have to go hunting for a slip.
I have always liked the shabby chic fabric. so cottagey and summery. How cool was it that the ruffle was already there?? I love it when a sewing project works out like that.
I have a pattern to make some pillow case dresses. Hoping to make some for my nieces for the summer.
Yay for you! Simple and Pretty.
I agree, what a nice friend you have!
can you re post the tute for that? i'm taking on a 9 year old female for sewing lessons and this might be something she'd want to try.
very cute and summery. Wonderful for dreaming of wildflower fields, butterflies, and lemonade :)
Oh how cute are those!! You are always able to tap into your imagination and make amazing items. I've been reading your blog for some time but have rarely commented. I wish you a sunshiney day

Hi, I'm de-lurking to say I think those are adorable!! I recently found some adorble crib bedsheets at a thirft store that I plan on making a dress for my little girl! It was so much cheaper than fabric!!
You have such cute ideas for your kids!! I love how you think to do such creative things for them. My mind doesn't think that way too much. lol But I hope to use some of your ideas!!

You are so creative. I would have never thought of that. What cute dresses, all from a curtain.
Those are so cute!! I am assuming you didn't use bias tape around the armholes?? That definitely will shave time off. Love the idea of that cute ruffle at the bottom. I wonder if I could get away with a pillowcase style maternity top??

So sweet!
