Front Door Beauty: Beauty is Welcoming

It has been a while since I've done anything new for our front door. The problem is that I just can't find anything I like that is also reasonably priced. I mean, what is up with the price of wreaths? And a majority of wreaths available are simply not my taste.

So, for now - I have just been sticking with my one thing that I like and enjoy {which I am definitely keeping by the way!} On a recent Saturday morning, I woke up later than usual and had a spontaneous idea to go to Wal-Mart and pick up donuts for our family breakfast. Immediately I wondered how long it had been since I'd done this and why it had taken me so long to think of it again - but also happy that is sounded like a fun idea for that morning.

I can remember the delight of Saturday mornings when we got donuts growing up and while I do wonder where this tradition that many families seem to have enjoyed comes from - I'm happy to keep it going!

While I am typically one who avoids Wal-Mart as much as possible - going earlier in the day is actually not too bad. What is it about not enjoying shopping there? As I think about it I wonder if it is the miserable aesthetics in there - I can't stand it! Anway, I digress ... as I entered the store, I remembered a project I was wanting to make for a friend and headed to pick up some flour sack dishtowels. {I'll tell you about that project this week too!} Then I began the hunt for some sort of fabric Sharpie and wandered through the craft department. I ended up not buying a fabric pen because I didn't like the options but I did find this lovely tobacco basket in the craft department.

I'm trying very hard not to make impulse purchases and have been doing well with it, but I guess this qualifies as one so there is that. This basket was less than $10 and I wondered if I could make it into something fun for our front door.

An embroidery hoop from my craft stash, backing of a vintage quilt and some boxwood garland I had on hand made a simple and fun update for our front door! I like it! So maybe my lesson in this is that I like unconventional front door decor? This isn't perfect and the ink bled a bit - but I like it and it looks homey and inviting which makes me happy!

Tell me what you usually hang on your front door? Where do you look for inspiration in changing it up?
