Apple Orchard: Picnic Lunch

It's no surprise how much I love picnics! And having a picnic lunch complete with pretty table is one of my must-do's at the apple orchard, it really is almost my favorite thing about going. The edge of the picnic area runs along the orchard so even though they don't allow picnics in the orchard, this is the next best thing.

Slowing around the table, eating outside, little tummies that are hungry after the walking and picking and carrying of the morning - all of it adds to the experience for me. And the joy in setting a pretty table that only takes a few minutes really to set out.

Even now in pictures, may it be a fest for your eyes and inspiration to your mind and heart of slowing down and creating beauty for those who gather around your tables.

Our quiche scones were not as good as usual presumably because I'd frozen the dough in an effort to be prepared ahead of time. They just didn't rise up nicely and were dry - but hearty and full of protein just the same.

Salads in little yogurt jars were a nice addition and of course we rounded everything out with apple cider slushies and warm apple cider donuts!

Tablecloth and cake stand are from TJ Maxx, burlap runner and paper garland were homemade and still on hand, brown and white thrifted plate made a lovely backdrop for our freshly picked apples!

I love it when there are varying textures and things that look old added to things that are old.

You are creating days that will be wonderful memories when the children are grown and on their own. They will have a wonderful example of how to live slow, be present in their daily life and be centered around all God has ready for them to enjoy.

We visit that same orchard nearly every year and love it! Our picnics to not look nearly as lovely and beautiful as yours, though. I'm too busy doing battle with the bees to worry about the ambiance! Do you not have any trouble with the bees? And those donuts! Oh, aren't they just the BEST?????

@Pam: we haven't had trouble with bees - there were a few wasps but they did not bother us. I don't know when you go but we almost always go in August which is early for apples. Perhaps that has something to do with it - the timing? YES! Those donuts are just so so good!

I bet you are correct on the timing. We almost always go the end of Sept. or into Oct. We might need to change up our timing in the future~ plus the early apples you mentioned are our favorites anyway! Regardless, your beautiful table setting are such an inspiration. Thank you for sharing.
