These little pennants were a fun last minute idea to bring our campy theme to the Thanksgiving table! I can't wait to make some more - I for sure need a Christmas one or two!
In case you might like to make one too - here are some details about how I made them!
I started with just a regular sheet of felt - you know, the 20 cent kind from the craft store!? Fold it in half {hamburger fold} and cut. This way, you can get two pennants out of one sheet.
Now fold this in half {hot dog fold!} and use a ruler to draw a line from one corner to the opposite corner to create a triangle. Cut along that line through both layers of felt.
Open up and admire your cute triangle :)
Cut a strip for the short edge to your desired thickness. Trim to fit the edges of your felt. Next, cut two thin strips of felt, quilt batting, fabric or whatever you like. Mine are about six inches long. These will make the little tails that hang off one side.
Fold tails in half and offset the edges a little so they don't lay on top of each other, pin in place with edging.
Stitch a rectangle around the edges of your edging to hold the tails in place. Then stitch around the edges of your pennant.
Now it is time to get ready for your lettering! I found a campy font I liked over at 1001 free fonts and used that to create my own template. You can download what I used here. If you make your own, just make sure you are viewing your screen at 100% and you can hold your felt up to the screen to see how it will fit.
Cut your letters apart and pin to desired fabric to cut out. Repeat for each letter.
Lay your letters out to get your spacing the way you want it and pin your letters in place:
Stitch an outline around your letters just inside the cut edge - it is a little tricky, but the end result is worth it!
Then use hot glue to affix your pennant to a wooden dowel {I just found some pieces that I already had} and tuck into a thermos, vase or jar!
Now I need some help deciding what to put on my Christmas one - what would you choose? Each of these has eight letters and they are about as full as they can get - so in eight letters or less, please share your Christmas word ideas! I was thinking maybe Adore Him but look forward to hearing your suggestions!

I LOVE these! Adorable! I wonder if you could line up four or so pennants and do "O Come" "Let Us" "Adore Him" or something close? You could also do:
Immanuel
Rejoice
Messiah
Noel
Joy
Peace
O Come All Ye Faithful (three pennants!)
Joy to the World (three pennants!)
The possibilities are endless! Have fun! I look forward to seeing what you come up with!
Thank you for sharing this tutorial with us. I love these little banner flags! What about JOYFUL, that is what I think of when I think of your blog
These are so cute! For Christmas ones, maybe 'Joy', 'Hope', 'Peace', 'Worship','Alleluia', 'Praise Him','Messiah', 'Jesus', 'Gloria/Glory' (Glory to God would be cute but too many letters and spaces.)....
joy
merry
bright
peace
hope
Wonderful
calm

Very cute! Love "Adore Him"...How about...JESUS..JOY..The Star...Peace...Wonder...Noel...The King. Love your creativity.
These are SO cute and I am definitely adding them to my list of "to makes" for Christmas! I'm think, Joy, Peace, Love, Hope! But then for the New Year, I want to make a few that say Slow, Simple, Cozy, all the words that I try to thread into the fabric of our days! Thanks so much for the tutorial and for the inspiration!
