Applesauce!

A visit to the orchard and apple picking means applesauce is next! The way I make applesauce is just 24 apples peeled and cut into big chunks - add 4 c. water and cook until soft. Puree until desired consistency and pour into jars. Process in water bath canner for ten minutes. Makes about 12 c. applesauce.

I love those red and white lids. Where did you find them?

I've been thinking of making applesauce with a Smokehouse Apple this year. It's an old apple, I hope I can find them. They are so good. What is your favorite apple to use?

And. Applesauce, in our home, is like another side vegetable. It's nearly served at every meal.

Lovely photos. Lovely red and white canning lids.

It is such a good idea to get out all of your supplies (especially those gingham lids!) before beginning. I always find myself needing to get provisions out of the cabinets or frig with sticky hands!
Did you see the rusty canning ring pumpkin on Pinterest? Love it!

I always take the kids to pick apples and we make applesauce but I don't know why, I have never thought of canning it. What a wonderful idea and a little taste of fall for the rest of the year! I was shocked to discover that here in Ontario, we have lost 80% of our apples this year due to a hard frost this spring. So sad!
