Letter stickers and 6x6 canvases came from Wal-Mart, though I would definitely not recommend the foam stickers. Live and learn - they were very difficult to remove after the paint. I wasn't completely satisfied with our results since some of the words are hard to read and not as clear as I'd hoped - but I am going to enjoy them for a while anyway because it is something we did together and I want to honor my kids efforts and investment in creating!
I do have one regret and that is Samuel's canvas had blobs of paint on it and I asked him to smooth it out a little so it would dry in a reasonable time, but now I can see where it was smoothed and it looks less like his original art :( But I know I will never regret the time I set aside for family creativity together!
Do you get creative with your family?

Cool! :) Love, Mom
Love it! Megan did that with the word pray at church a couple of weeks ago. They just used tape to make the word. I hadn't thought to use stickers. Hmmmm....
I think the canvases look wonderful! No matter what, this verse has been imprinted upon your littles' hearts after this project.
Love it! Great idea Monica!

Very beautiful! They look great! Your family is very creative & talented. I'd love to have my grandchildren do this. What would you use instead of those foam letters? And I must ask - what is that "tree" collage on the next wall? I must see & know more of that! Is that a leaf & pics of your children, with writing behind? Oh, I hope you post about that sometime!!!
Sorry, I have one other question. Since I am not crafty at all - what type paint did you use? Thanks so much for inspiring this Grandma to craft with her grands!
I love this Monica! I think they turned out really nice. I love doing things on canvas and haven't done anything like this yet.
Don't be too disappointed with what Samuel did. He's still so young and at this point he did what he is capabale of and as time goes on and you look back you'll be able to see his progress. I say this because just last night I was cleaning out some drawers with art & school work and found things my daughter did when she was 3 or so and I just smiled knowing how far she has come over the years. Part of doing creative things with them is letting them do their thing (as long as they're behaving! :)).
I know how you feel because my daughter did the same things when younger and I got frustrated, but looking back I know it's the way it should be. :)
How precious. I love this!
I really like this. As my kids get older I find that I am wanting to do more fun art like this.
Monica, I love this idea! We're painting and redecorating our daughters' rooms and I'm thinking of having each of them choose their favorite verse to decorate on a canvas to hang in their rooms. Thanks for this idea!
Love this!! This may be a future project with my own littles that love to be creative....saying that they {love} to paint might be an understatement!!lol
Debra, I'm sorry that I miscommunicated my regret in my post. I was hoping it would come across that the regret was in me for asking him to smooth out the paint globs so they would dry more quickly. Now I can see where he did that and I'm disappointed in myself for asking him to do anything other than his original work. :)
Hi Denise,
I used this washable tempera paint: http://www.discountschoolsupply.com/Product/ProductDetail.aspx?product=3303&keyword=simply%20washable%20tempera%20paint&scategoryid=0&CategorySearch=&Brand=&Price= ; but you can probably find smaller quantities at a craft store! :)
As for the family tree on the wall, visit this previous post to learn more about it: http://thehomespunheart.blogspot.com/2007/04/family-tree.html
Happy Crafting! Monica
What a sweet project. I love the colors. I noticed your family tree on the wall too... is that something that you sewed or crafted? My mother loves that kind of thing.
Hey, those are super cute. What a great idea. That's something I could do to add some beauty and more Christ into my every day :) :) Love and hugs from the ocean shores of California, Heather :)
I love this idea! Thank you so much for sharing!
