This is interesting - I've been thinking about this lately but in the totally opposite view.
My following comments only apply to a family situation I'm imagining as having at least one child over 5 or 6, or maybe only 1 child. Not to families with a baby, a toddler, and a pre-schooler, for example. Also to moms who already spend lots of time with their children, so taking the time to implement a stress-free laundry system isn't robbing time from the children.
I think good moms have neat homes and happy attitudes. My goal is not to just enjoy my family, but to see work as a blessing from God. To invite my children into that work, cheerfully, teaching them to take care of themselves and others. This is not the attitude of "Don't make that mess!" This attitude says, "Let's clean up that mess together."
If our home is messy, we can't as easily use it for productivity and hospitality. When our surroundings are chaotic, many of us feel chaotic.
So, I think, as a good mom I don't have an often messy house. Instead I pray for God to give me wisdom and endurance to have a cheerfully neat home.
