Giveaway: Thomas Nelson Jesus Calling

Have you heard of this book yet?

I had heard of it - but hadn't had a chance to look at one or
really even understand the idea of the book. Until, Relevant!

As attendees, we were each given a copy of this book and I found myself reading it even that weekend. I have stuck with this and been using it for my devotions each morning.

And, I love it!

I'm not usually too big on devotional books - because I don't want a book to take place of when I would be reading the Bible. But, in this case - it has pointed me to the Bible.

There is a devotion for each day of the year, read that day's thoughts and then there are 2-4 Scripture references to look up that go with that day.

From the Amazon description:

"After many years of writing in her prayer journal, missionary Sarah Young decided to "listen" to God with pen in hand, writing down whatever she believed He was saying to her. It was awkward at first, but gradually her journaling changed from monologue to dialogue. She knew her writings were not inspired as Scripture is, but they were helping her grow closer to God. Others were blessed as she shared her writings, until people all over the world were using her messages. They are written from Jesus’ point of view, thus the title Jesus Calling. It is Sarah’s fervent prayer that our Savior may bless you with His presence and His peace in ever deeper measure."

I give this book my highest recommendation - I have learned and been challenged so much by it already in only one month of reading it.

And, guess what? It comes in a childrens' version as well:

How great would it be to have something like this in your family that you can be reading as parents and then reading to your children in words that are written for them at their level?

This book is set up the same way as the adult version - with 365 daily entries and Scripture references to look up at the end of each entry.

I've read this with my own children a few times, but I think it would be best when they are a bit older. I believe that I read it was geared towards age 8 and over. I still love the idea and am definitely saving this for my own family!

Would you like to take a closer look? You can download two weeks of devotions here for free!

One last thing - you may have noticed the I'm a Tommy Mommy badge on my sidebar. This just means that I will receive books to review on my blog from Tommy Nelson Publishers and have the opportunity to share them through giveaway with you! I hope you will enjoy learning about new books and having the opportunity to win also.

Speaking of winning - today I am giving away one set of Jesus Calling books.
One winner will receive both books!

Monica,

I almost fell over when I saw this title! The woman who taught my most recent Bible study highly recommended this book (which I'd not heard of), and I put it on my Christmas list!

How exciting to know that you've been reading it, and also that there is a children's version available!

I've never heard of this book before. I would either use it myself or give it to one of the high school girls in my Sunday school class. Many of them say that they want to get serious about having a quiet time yet never get around to it.

Like your other commentors, I had not heard of this book. I particularly like that it has a children's version. I assume that it contains the same daily message, just presented in a different way.
If I win, I think I will keep them for my family.

I have searched for a devotional series that would allow my older son (9) to learn the practice of doing his own morning devotions, and something for me that had the same topic for that day. Then we could discuss it over breakfast before we go about our days. This would be amazing to try. And I love the idea of writing from Jesus' point of view. I often write a piece along those same lines and those are my favourite pieces to write!

I told you I read Jesus Calling everyday and would love to give a copy to my sister, Jane. I think it would be such a blessing to her and help her draw nearer to the Lord!
ANd the children's version - well, you know where that one would go!! To my precious grandchildren. I think Sarah Young has done a beautiful job with the adult version of helping people like me to daily bring their focus back to the ONe and Only One Who is important and she has also given me thought daily for where my priorities are??!!!! I would love for the children to grow up with those thoughts in their minds daily.

I have not heard of it, but think it sounds great. Our family has always prayed, but most of our personal prayer has been very quite. Now with two littles we are doing more to model the behavior for them and the transition is challenging. This sounds like it might be a great help!

Hi Monica!
I have not heard of this book.
This book would help guide me in a closer relationship with Jesus and that is something I a really needing right now....direction and guidance.
An outline or devotional will help keep me focused nd ive me a set goal to work on or towards.
I could give the children's version as a gift to a niece or nephew or I could save it for a future child I will have one day.
Thanks so much for the opportunity to win in this giveaway!

I'd either keep this for myself or give it to my cousin. I've been having daily devotionals each morning, and would love to try these out. I also have devotionals with my little ones to start each school day, and have been flittering from book to book to try to find the perfect one that includes actual Bible verses instead of just stories or concepts. This may be just what we need!

Monica, I was so excited to see this here! I bought her other book over summer, titled "Dear Jesus", and I love it! In "Dear Jesus" she has two sections per entry, one still written from His perspective, and also one written from our perspective, where she tenderly captures many things I am feeling! I *love* how GOD can use others' writings with HIS *perfect timing* to speak to our hearts with the EXACT words needed on that day that we turn to that page. God is so good and gracious, and I think God is using Sarah Young's writing in a meaningful way. I did not know the children's one existed and I was so excited to see that! I downloaded the samples and would love for my almost 10 year old daughter to read through it. How neat that we've been enjoying her books!
