Make Memories: Every Day is Special

Take a few moments to make the ordinary special in your home today!
Next, come back and tell me what you did!

Hi, Monica,
My grandchildren all live in other states and I wish for them all the time. But....I invited a sweet teenage neighbor over after school and we baked chocolate chip cookies. Then we enjoyed eating some cookies and some good cold milk. Such fun we had! She looked sooo cute in my vintage Campbell Soup Kids apron.

Dear Monica, you are so good at making memories with your family -- great photos! I think I will take some chai with me to work to enjoy mid-morning. I've been saving it for special occasions and it's nearly gone, so that will make a special treat for today. Love you! Mom

Sounds great, Monica!! I'll have to do that, because lately, things have felt less than special. Maybe my pregnancy hormones out of whack or something, but something has got to give. My attitude, perhaps??
Hope you have a great day!!

A dear sweet friend of mine is going to help my daughter sew a skirt today! It makes me smile to think that even though I can't sew, one of my dear friends is taking time out of her busy schedule, when she could be doing other things for her own family, and is going to help my daughter with something that she's been looking forward to for a very long time. My daughter has been smiling and dancing around the house today because of this upcoming "sewing date." It makes me smile seeing my daughter so happy. Because of the kindness of my dear friend, today is a very special day for my daughter!

I made some dough in the breadmaker, and we made soft pretzels together! As easy and fun as playdough, but yummier! Leslie in Canada

My kids are at school right now and my husband is in Chicago this week. But I will put on my thinking cap and come up with something special in the ordinary.
Thank you for the inspiration to cherish my family today! I will come back and comment with our results.
I love the glass candle holder that appears in a couple pictures. Is it new to you?

Today my girls and I painted our toenails together! Simple, FREE, and fun!

They loved it! All it took was making time for something special!

I love your blog!!

Today really is a special day because it's my husband's birthday, plus it's the first day we're all really getting over the stomach bug! One non-birthday related special thing we did was making an ice sculpture suncatcher from the Family Fun issue, even though we were sick. It took all of about 3 minutes, cost no money, and is so pretty. Just the right speed for a craft for sick people! It was a bright spot in our slow-moving sick person day.

Hmm- I wonder is the polish for your toes or the littles? :)
I can't paint my toes without the girls wanting theirs done too!

Today, we took some meals that I had made on my latest cooking day to my husband's grandparents house. They are in their 80's, so it is very helpful to them to have some homecooked meals ready. Plus, it teaches the girls respect and care for our elders. Hopefully this creates special memories for them! :)
Have a memory filled day!

Monica, I enjoy your blog so much. Today I had the privelege of ministering to two different parts of my 'family' in Christ:: food to a new mamma & her family AND smiles and hugs at an airport welcome for another family bringing home their new son from Ethiopia. Definitely a special day!

I really liked this idea today - a cold, January day is a good time to feel like like is a bit bleak and this has ended up being a wonderful day. We didn't do anything terribly exciting but we did end up spending some really nice time as a family. My dh is a soccer fanatic and he recorded a daytime game today to watch this evening. We decided to put everyone in their team jerseys, eat dinner in front of the t.v. and watch the game together. We try not to watch t.v. during meals at all but this was fun!

Hello,

I chose to write each of my kids a note. I turned down their beds and put the notes on their pillows. I wrote about it on my blog at Happyhomeandheart.blogspot.com if you care to read about it. Thanks so much for the wonderful idea.

I so appreciate how you always do this! I don't actually have anything that I did just now, but every time you post about this sort of thing it encourages me to do it. I typically look for the most efficient way to do things, but i know that sometimes I miss out on the special and beautiful things that way. Thanks for your beautiful bog!

Hi Monica I was just wondering if you were going to do any post on some of the things you have been working on with your kids with homeschool. I love all your cute ideas and have been kind of missing them lately :>

It may seem small, but I burned some candles around the house last night. I usually save my candles for when company comes over, but I thought why not burn them and make the house small nice and look romantic for my husband!

We popped popcorn and watched a movie together.

So I've really been thinking about this post this week and let me tell you it's much harder to actually do it. BUT, in the mornings we are always rushed and it causes some unnecessary stress. This morning I woke up 15 minutes earlier and made waffles, bacon, and friut on the table instead of just grabbing something on the way out the door. Everyone woke up with smiles. I think I'll have to make it a daily friday thing...or Monday..a better start to the week. Thanks for the tips!

It took me forever to post about this but shortly after you posted this I took you up on your challenge. When I was putting fresh sheets on my boys' beds I folded their sheets down, hotel style, put a fresh pair of jammies out and topped it off with a small bag of cookies for them to enjoy in bed while listening to the story. I blogged about it here:
