I am a long time follower, but don't think I've ever commented. We also are a homeschooling family, and by the look of your photos, it seems like you were right near where we live! In fact, your river photo looks like it might have been taken from the end of our road! Were you in or near Valle Crucis at all?

Pam

PS~ I've REALLY loved your "Slow" book!

@Pam: YES! We have a lot in Powder Horn that we hope to build a house on and move to when my hubby retires in five years! We were on our way to Elk Knob for a picnic lunch :) Love that area! Thanks for commenting!

How fun!!! I think you had posted a photo of the Mast Farm Inn a time back, and we live about 2 miles from there.

We are older parents to 5 children adopted from China and 3 grown children. (not older parents to them!) 2 years ago we bought an old farmhouse (the oldest in the county) on the Watauga River and moved up here from Charlotte. My husband works in Charlotte at a large bank, and commutes in 2-3 times a week. Anyway, our retirement plans have been postponed due to our now larger family, so we decided to go ahead and move to where we wanted to be. We are SO glad we did~ we just love it up here. It is a great place to raise children. And of course, so very beautiful! You will LOVE living up here! I'm so excited for you!

I think your river photo is actually of our section of the river. Our road runs along to the left side of the river in your photo. If you've driven down that road, we are about 1-1/2 miles down in an old white house with a large front porch w/ columns. You can't miss it.

So fun to see my area in your post!
