Step of Faith

In September this little guy leaned over one Sunday during church and said, "I've been thinking about going down front."

I said we would talk about it at home and we did have a conversation that afternoon at lunch about what was on his heart. He told me with a broken voice and tears starting to form in his eyes that he heard what the pastor said that morning. The message included a reference to Peter not wanting Jesus to wash his feet. When Jesus said that if he didn't he couldn't have any part of him, Peter immediately came back with - wash all of me!

We told Samuel that whenever he was ready, he could go down front. The next Sunday he leaned over and said today was the day. He whispered, "I can go by myself Mama, I know this is part of growing up."

Oh.my.heart. I assured him I would go with him - this was a special and important decision! Both David and I went with him, but let me tell you - he was a young man on a mission! He walked decisively and ahead of us, it was definitely on his heart to make this step and decision and I love that it was when he was ready. Samuel has spent a lot of his years being very timid and shy, but he is gaining some courage and this was one of the times I saw it most.

After that Sunday, we took the next step which was setting up an appointment with the Pastor who wanted to make sure he understood his decision and the next step of getting baptized. I was nervous, but he was very at peace and just went in and was happily himself. We scheduled a Sunday for Samuel to be baptized.

Then due to a mix up, hurricane, and a couple of times we were out of town - we were just able to get it rescheduled. A great way to start his 9th year and celebrate how God is growing him. My heart might burst!

Samuel was so tickled at how warm the water was - still a kid! He enjoyed every second of the experience and I'm so grateful. I hope he will remember this special time but more than anything - I pray he will continue to, "grow in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and man."

Matthew 19:14, "Let the children come unto me for to such belongs the Kingdom of God."
